Description
- Mild steel
- Zinc plated (galvanized) for better corrosion resistance compared to non-galvanized (with copper plating only)
- Standard 6.35mm 1/4″ outside diameter, 0.7mm 0.028″ wall thickness.
- Made to and strictly tested according to SAE J527, brazed steel tube for hydraulic brake, double walled. Don’t use single wall welded steel tubes that is far less reliable that could result in leakage of brake fluid.
- Flexible to make any regular flares:
- Double/inverted flare
- Bubble/mushroom flare
WARNING!
Tubing with a copper looking is being sold on some websites for brake line repair. They represents GREAT RISKs!
There are 2 sources of that kind of tubing:
- Double walled brazed steel tubing
- It is brazed from two layers of steel strips.
- It’s safe as long as it is rustless, but it is not rustless.
- The copper looking comes from the original copper plating that is used to form the round tube and the copper plating is very thin.
- It would rust in a few days and leakage of the brake fluid will certainly happen. You know what danger that means.
- Single wall welded steel tubing with copper plating
- It has the same disadvantage but costs less than half of the above tubing.
- It is welded along a single seam, from a single layer of steel strips.
- There is great risk of leakage from the seam, since the seam could crack along with the vibration of the running vehicle.
- It has more residules on the inner surface of the tube, less cleaner, and pollutes the brake fluid.
